65th Anniversary Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Flag Blessing Held in Colourful Ceremony
 

The second Buddhist ceremony on account of the forthcoming Army Day (Oct 10) and the 65thArmy anniversary, quite known among Army personnel as the annual Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi flag blessing, got underway Thursday (2) morning with hundreds of Army personnel, representative of the entire organization.

* Fire at Ammo & Explosive Dump Doused with No Damages
Updated : 2nd October 2014,11:00:13 Hours

A fire that broke out inside the ammunition and explosives dump building in the Field Engineers camp complex of the Army at Mattegoda, Kottawa this morning (2) around 7.23 a.m. was brought under control within 45 minutes with the support of the Fire Brigade. The fire in this particular building, constructed with required precautionary measures and high technical standards however did not cause any damage to adjacent buildings, property or injury to Army personnel working there.

* Int’ Children’s Day Marked in Kilinochchi

Two elaborate events in connection with the International Children’s Day got underway at Nelum Piyasa and Harmony Centre at Kilinochchi on Wednesday (1) on the theme ‘Protect Us with Love’. Fun-filled and merry-making activities, games and variety entertainments that were staged by more than 800 school students from the area in both these places dominated the events, attended by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).

* Sri Lanka Sets Demining Record

Sri Lanka has been able to set a record by demining more than 96 percent of a vast area that was strewn with explosives by a terrorist organization over a period of three decades, said Military Spokesman and Director of Defence and Urban Development Ministry Media Centre Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya. He said that there was only a 79 square Kilometre area in the forestry areas in North and East to be cleared out of a total of 2064 square Kilometres of confirmed Hazardous Area.

Sri Lanka Army’s 2 Gajaba Regiment troops and 221 Brigade troops in Trincomalee with the support of civil boats and Navy personnel in the seas, adjacent to the Swami Rock of the sacred Koneshwaran Temple premises in Trincomalee, were the first to rush to rescue the two children and the mother who had reportedly tried to commit suicide after jumping into the seas off the precipice recently.

Sergeant K.L.C.K Leemagastenna of 8 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) carried a Gold and Private S.A.N Bandara of 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) succeeded in bagging a Silver medal.Lance Corporal S.A.M.A.D Sameera of 19 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) meanwhile made the country proud by collecting a Bronze medal.
