Sri Lanka’s No. 1 ‘Diyatalawa Fox Hill Super Cross’, the year’s biggest motor racing event  that brings thousands of fans to the chilly garrison town, ended on Saturday (18) evening with several distinguished guests, including Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and his spouse, Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), present.

* General Amnesty for Army Absentees Extended up to April 25

The general amnesty period, offered to Army absentees, enabling them to receive their legal discharge from the Army has now been extended by ten more days until April 25, 2015 after its previous deadline expires on Thursday (16). The positive response, hitherto received from the absentees crossed the total figure 13,600 who reached respective Regimental Centres in search of discharge after the general amnesty period came into effect on April 1, 2015.

The widow, Mrs Wijayakumar Chandrakumari with five children from Kilinochchi area on Sunday (12) was the recipient of a New Year gift by way of a new house, constructed by the troops, following patronage extended by a philanthropist. Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) taking this initiative after hearing that the beneficiaries were living in a shanty-type slum, explored possibilities of building a new house for the family.

* Release of 1000 Acres From HSZ Completed

An extent of 570 more acres of land in Valali and Kankasanthurai South in the Grama Seva Division, Valikamam sector in the Jaffna peninsula were released by the Security Forces to the District Secretary for Jaffna Friday (10) morning for distribution among rightful owners. Under today’s phase, 397 acres from Kankasanthurai South and 173 acres from Valali in the Valikamam sector have now been released to the District Secretariat, thus completing the extent of 1000 acres assured by the Government.
