Sri Lanka Army swimmers participating in the open swimming competition, organized by Negombo ‘Tiger Shark’ swimming club won the overall Championship (male) beating 27 school clubs and swimming clubs in the country. The Army team also won the trophy for the Best Team out of tri-service and Police teams who attended the tournament. In addition, the medal awarded for the Best Disable Sportsman was also won by Private S.M Prashantha of 5 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. 20th January 2012,13:29:02 Hours  The 15th UN contingent, expected to leave for Haiti shortly on UN Peace Keeping Missions, had their passing out parade at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Training School at Puttalam. Major General R.V Samarathunga Colonel of the Regiment received the salute as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The 15th contingent is comprised of 49 officers and 601 soldiers. Of them, 29 officers and 419 other ranks are from the VIR.
