Army Commander Visits the Injured of Fox Hill Unexpected Tragedy

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, soon after the accident at Fox Hill, arrived at Diyatalawa Base Hospital with the intention of inquiring about the medical conditions of the injured.

During the visit, the Army Chief spoke with the medical officials to inquire about the nature of the injuries, health developments and the healing process. Moreover, he interacted with the injured personnel and their families, expressing the deepest regret regarding the unexpected incident.

Major General S.P.A.I.M.B Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander of Security Forces - Central, Major General W.W.H.R.R.V.M.N.D.K.B Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Adjutant General, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the visit.

The Fox Hill Supercross 2024 was held on 21 April 2024 at the Fox Hill Supercross track. During the 17th race under the 1500cc Ford Laser Mazda 323 category, two cars collided near the pines corner, just 150 meters from the starting point. One of the cars that collided in this way skidded off the track and 07 were killed and 21 other people were injured and admitted to the Diyatalawa Base Hospital.

Afterwards, 10 patients were transferred to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for further treatments. Following this incident, the event was suspended by the organisers.
