Concerned about the miserable plight of a homeless family, 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the 651 Infantry Brigade under the 65 Infantry Division with the financial support of several donors erected a new house at Thevampiddi, Vellankulam and vested it in the beneficiaries on Saturday (10) during a brief ceremony.
Troops serving the area observed that Mr Emil Pomikko Jebanesan Roche in the Thevampiddi Grama Niladhari Division with his wife and the little son was undergoing economic difficulties and living a hand to mouth life without a proper shelter.
On being informed of their plight, Major General E.A.D.P Edirisinghe psc, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Infantry Division and Colonel S Wijesiriwardane RWP RSP, Commander, 651 Infantry Brigade took an initiative in this regard and reached several businessmen and philanthropists in the area for resource materials for construction of a new house.
Accordingly, 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops of the 651 Infantry Brigade using their technical and engineering skills provided manpower and erected a new house for the poor family.
On Saturday (10), Major General E.A.D.P Edirisinghe psc as the Chief Guest went to the location, unveiled a plaque and handed over keys to the new house to the recipient, after conducting several traditional features.
