211 Infantry Brigade Initiates Drinking Water Facility for More Than 2500 Students & Civilians

The sponsorship provided by a businessman in Colombo at the request of the 211 Infantry Brigade enabled the troops to install a new osmosis plant (water purification unit), worth around 2,000,000/= for the benefit of students at Koongollawa Primary School, Medawachchiya and nearby civilians on Monday (12).

The businessman in response to a request of the Commander, 211 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier A.M.C.P Wijayarathne RWP RSP offered his generosity in facilitation of the requirement for pure drinking water. This region has been badly-affected due to lack of clean drinking water and the incidence of kidney diseases among students and civilians alike.

This installation that benefits more than 2500 civilians and students also fulfills a long-felt need in the area where a high prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has been recorded among people in the area, following consumption of water, rich with minerals and acidic substance.

This project was sponsored by the famous businessmen, Mr. Saman Gunathilake and his family members living in Colombo considering the request of the 211 Brigade Commander.

The inauguration of the water purification unit took place on Sunday (11) with the participation of the Commander, 211 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier A.M.C.P Wijayarathne RWP RSP as the Chief Guest.

Medawachchiya Divisional Secretary Mrs. M.C. Malaviarachchi, Mr. Saman Gunathilake and his family members, Officers and Other Ranks of the 211 Infantry Brigade and the 2 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment participated in this event.
