With the express objective of facilitating the kids below ten years of age for a sound sleep that would in return help them in conduct of their primary education, the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) with the sponsorship of Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW), received through Rotary Club of Kelaniya, launched a programme to distribute 1600 sleeping kits among students in Kilinochchi area.
On the directives from Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, SFHQ-KLN, troops of the 57 Division in Kilinochchi organized these distribution ceremonies at both Nelum Piyasa and Kilinochchi Dhramapuram Maha Vidyalayam during July 6 - 7.
Each sleeping kit consists of a mosquito net, bed sheets, pillow cases, pyjama kit, towel, T-shirt, pair of trousers, school bag, pair of shoes, pair of socks and a water bottle and the distribution took place under two phases.
Amidst the presence of Kelaniya Rotary Club and SCAW of Canada representatives, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe under the first phase gave away those bed kits to 800 students at the Nelum Piyasa on the first day.
The second stage of this distribution took place at Dharmapuram Maha Vidyalayam, Kilinochchi on July 7, headed by General Officer Commanding (GOC), 57 Division at Kilinochchi.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, GOCs of 57 and 65 Divisions, Zonal Education Director, representatives of SCAW and Kelaniya Rotary Club school students, parents and teachers were associated with distribution ceremonies at both places.
