  • 100 More Scholarships Awarded Under SVAU's 2014 Programme


    Award of 100 more scholarships, each worth Rs 5000/= to students of War Hero families under the annual scholarship award - 2014 project of the Seva Vanitha Army Unit (SVAU), took place Thursday (13) morning at BMICH with Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SVAU.
     
  • More than 300 Service Personnel Take Part in Third 'CISM' Run

     
     
    Sri Lanka's third 'CISM joint tri-service marathon run, organized under the aegis of Brussels-based International Military Sports Council (Conseil International du Sport Militaire) and the Navy, more widely known as ‘CISM Day Run,’ got underway early this morning (16) at Colombo Light House premises, with the participation of 300 tri-service personnel, headed by respective tri-service Commanders and Senior Officers.
     
  • Appreciative Laurels Awarded to Army Personnel Dedicated to CHOGM Success

     
    Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, honest in his appraisal of dedication and commitment of the Army contingent to the success story of the recent CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in Colombo, fully appreciated their contribution on Thursday (13) evening during a special ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters.
     
  • Re-settlers Gifted with Army-Built 17 New Houses

     
    Seventeen new houses, erected with a Rs 5.1 million sponsorship from Australia for the benefit of resettled families in Bogaswewa, Namalgama, Nandamithragama, Sapumalgaskada and Veheratenna in Vavuniya, were vested in the villagers during a ceremony on Nawam Poya Day (14). The project completed with labour support of troops, serving the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni.....
     
  • All at SLMA Observe 'Sil' on Navam Full Moon Poya Day

     
    Attaching religious significance, all the Officers, Civil Lecturers, Officer Cadets and Non Commissioned Officers (NCO) at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), the premier seat of learning in the Army, joined under one roof and  observed ‘Sil’ on ‘Navam’ full moon Poya Day (14) at the SLMA premises.
     
  • Mobile Dental Clinic Organized by Troops Serve More Than 235 Students

     
    The Civil Affairs Office at 521 Brigade, Point Pedro of Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), intending to help children with oral health, organized a mobile dental clinic at Shiva Prakash Vidyalaya, Point Pedro on Tuesday (11). Conducted by Dr Srinivasan of Jaffna Teaching Hospital, it was joined by Dr S. Senthilkumaran, Dental Surgeon and several members of the medical staff at Manthikai Base Hospital.
     
  • Inmates at Open Welfare Centres Meet with Visiting Jaffna Commander


    Inmates, resident in Jaffna-based open welfare centres caught unawares on Wednesday (12) afternoon when Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), showed up at their doorsteps with a view to receiving a firsthand update on their current well-being.
     
  • Kilinochchi Children Promised A Trip to Colombo

     
    With the financial support of ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta’ Foundation, gift parcels including school accessories and 35 gift vouchers, each worth of Rs 1000/- offered by DSI Private Limited, were distributed among 35 helpless children of Holy Family Convent Women’s and Children’s Home in Uratthipuram, Kilinochchi on Wednesday (12).
     
  • Japanese Envoy Pays Courtesy Call on Commander


    Ambassador for Japan Mr Nobuhito Hobo Tuesday (18) morning paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army at Army Headquarters and extended his formal greetings as it was his first visit. Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake during his interaction with the envoy, explained long-lasting healthy relations that prevail between two nations for generations and underlined the importance of further strengthening of such mutual bonds between both nations.
