Japanese Envoy Pays Courtesy Call on Commander

Ambassador for Japan Mr Nobuhito Hobo Tuesday (18) morning paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army at Army Headquarters and extended his formal greetings as it was his first visit.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake during his interaction with the envoy, explained long-lasting healthy relations that prevail between two nations for generations and underlined the importance of further strengthening of such mutual bonds between both nations.

The Army Chief elaborated on how the Army troops have been working day and night for the greater good of the people in the north and east, hand in hand with the government launched different development projects. In the post-conflict scenario, our contribution to the nation-building, for example, like in any other war-ravaged country, is the same since troops for that matter are highly competent, efficient and dedicated, the Commander told the envoy.  

Similarly, Lieutenant General Ratnayake, recalled memories back to the times of World War - II and expressed his pleasure on the speedy development Japan has so far achieved, despite those setbacks and natural catastrophes in the past. Mr Nobuhito Hobo maintained that the Sri Lankan Armed Forces are not a spent force, though it was a long-drawn conflict. He lauded their roles in response to the Commander’s comments.     

Exchange of mementos at the end of the meeting culminated the friendly meeting at the Commander’s office.

Mr Kaya, Political Advisor in the Embassy, Captain Shiga Kawa, Embassy’s Defence Attaché, Military Secretary, Major General Amal Karunasekara and Military Assistant, were associated with the meeting.
