Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, honest in his appraisal of dedication and commitment of the Army contingent to the success story of the recent CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in Colombo, fully appreciated their contribution on Thursday (13) evening during a special ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters.
On the directives and the personal supervision of the Commander of the Army, a total of 7117 Army personnel tirelessly served round the clock during preparatory, ongoing and post-CHOGM stages (Nov 01-20, 2013), displaying the highest degree of integrity, honesty, commitment and selflessness. Those varied services included Security, Coordination assignments, Transport, Supplies, Communication, IT facilities, Hospitality, etc and the project worked very well with everything intact due to commitment of heads of various segments.
Thursday’s ceremony, organized by the Military Secretariat congratulated and appreciated a representative gathering of 26 officers and 74 other ranks by awarding a certificate of appreciation by the Commander since the total 7117 all ranks could not be brought under the same roof due to nature of their duties across the country. They are to be awarded at respective service formations, later on.
Lieutenant General Ratnayake in his brief address to the gathering profusely thanked them for their contribution and affirmed that the Army, as in many other different instances, has once again proved their competence and unparalleled skills before the public.
Soon after award of those appreciative certificates, the Commander took time off to talk to those officers, present at the ceremony while sharing some refreshments with them.
Deputy Chief of Staff, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Director General Infantry, Quarter Master General, Director General General Staff, Master General Ordnance, Medical Advisor, Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, OCDS, Adjutant General, Commander, SFHQ-West and a large gathering of senior officers were present to witness award of those appreciative certificates.
