Inmates at Open Welfare Centres Meet with Visiting Jaffna Commander

Inmates, resident in Jaffna-based open welfare centres caught unawares on Wednesday (12) afternoon when Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), showed up at their doorsteps with a view to receiving a firsthand update on their current well-being.

With plans now underway for resettlement of all displaced families, still living in Open Welfare Centres (Muham), the SFHQ-J Commander personally took the initiative of visiting all 32 such Centres in 511, 513 and 521 Brigade areas across the peninsula and meeting the inmates to receive an update on the status quo before resettlement.

During the unscheduled visit, Major General Perera received a warm welcome and inquired into the grievances of the inmates, assuring them of the best support.

On his way back, he dropped in at Vazvaham Home for Physically-handicapped children at Chunnagam South and inquired into their well-being. The visiting Jaffna Commander instructed the military authorities in the area to provide those minors numbering over 40 with all possible assistance after coordinating with its management.
