61 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) celebrated its 7th anniversary with a series of programmes during May 29 - 30 under the directions of Brigadier W.A. Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division.
To coincide with the anniversary, a foundation stone for a new main office complex was laid on 29 May by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Division with the participation of Commanders of 611, 612 and 613 Brigades, Commanding Officers, officers and other ranks of under command establishments.
On 30 May, several flag blessing ceremonies were held at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Anuradhapura, Puwarasankulam Hindu Kovil, Madhu Church and Vavuniya Mosque.
After the religious programmes, a guard turnout and guard of honour saluted the General Officer Commanding on the same day at 61 Division Parade grounds. A programme to plant 500 coconut saplings across the 61 Division areas was initiated by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Division at the same occasion. An all rank lunch and distribution of water filters to several formations under command to 61 Division culminated the day’s proceedings.
