'Ifthar' Ritual Performed in Jaffna on Grand Scale

Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J) joined Muslim friends in Jaffna to celebrate ‘Ifthar’ (fast–breaking) event at the Public Ground, Jaffna Thursday (23).

Over 475 Muslims and several religious leaders of Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic and Islam attended  this event.

A speech, delivered by Maulavi Hakam Deen Amhar of Kaleliya Jumma mosque, Colombo  described the purpose of observing the fast in the Ramadan month in Sinhala and Tamil languages.

A mega LED screen in the background displayed Holy Prophet Mohommad’s  Mecca.

On behalf of the Muslim community, he expressed his sincere thanks to the Army for the regard and recognition it awarded towards their community and the religion.

Ven. Meegahajandure Sirivimala thero, Rev. K. Thiswar Kurukkal and Rev. Fr. Wasantha Kumar delivered short sermons before the prayers, followed by Ifthar.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana read the message of the Commander, SFHQ-J and conveyed the best wishes to the event. District Secretary for Jaffna Mr. Suntharam Arumainayagam and Jaffna Mayoress, Mrs. Yogeswari Pathgunarasa also attended the event.
