Scholarships to the Value of Rs 1.7 Million Awarded by SVAB


Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) further expanded their scholarship project organized a mammoth scholarship award programme for children of War Heroes, to mark 64th Army Day and World Children’s Day with Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, SVAB gracing the event as Chief Guest at Army Headquarters indoor stadium, today (16).

A total of 136 children of fallen, missing, disabled and serving War Heroes, accompanied by their parents or next of kin showed up the venue of the ceremony to receive scholarships worth more than Rs 1.7 million.

Accordingly, Kavindya Gimhani who got second place in the island in recent Grade 5 Scholarship Examination from Godagama Subharathi Mahamathya Vidyalaya received special donation of Rs. 50,000/= and also triplets K. Sewmini Vinodya, K. Sewwandi Pramodya and K. Nethmini Navodya from Holy Angles’ Girls College, Kuliyapitiya, received three special scholarships each worth of Rs 10,000/=.

During the programme three children with hearing problems received money donations to get hearing equipment and treatments. On the same occasion Kavisha Minod who was selected to Karate tournament in India, given an air ticket of Rs 29,200/=.

Dancers of ‘Lionel Ranwala Foundation’ and Army dancing team coloured the event and Mrs Damayanthi Rathnayake accompanied by SVAB senior members too, joined in distributing those scholarships and financial donations.
