Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) as the Chief Guest at the invitation of 55 Division General Officer Commanding participated in another scholarship distribution ceremony, held recently at the Pachchilaipalai Divisional Secretariat premises in Jaffna.
Funds provided by the government under this programme offered 135 scholarships, each worth about Rs 5,000/= to students living in the 55 Division area in Jaffna. All those students selected from low-income group families accordingly received deposit books plus a bag and a till during the ceremony.
All the attendees in the ceremony were entertained to lunch by the troops and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr S. Balakrishnan, Principal, Palai Madyamaha Vidyalaya.
The welcome speech was delivered by Ms K. Thivaraha in both Tamil and English languages. The move, another community project of the 55 Division came in for praise of the parents, teachers and civilians in the area since those recipient children find it difficult to continue their studies due to economic constraints.
Vadamarachchi East Divisional Secretary, Pachchilaipalai Divisional Secretary, Kilinochchi Director of Education, educational authorities, Hindu priests, senior Army officers and a large gathering attended the occasion.
