A book distribution ceremony, organized by 551 Brigade Headquarters, following a proposal made by Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division under Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), took place on Saturday (10) at Thalaiadi RCTMS Vidyalaya in Jaffna.
The occasion saw students of seven schools, Palai Madyamaha Vidyalaya, Sompattu Ganesha Vidyalaya, Masar GTMS Vidyalaya, Champianpattu GTM Vidyalaya, Mamunai GTM Vidyalaya, Thalaiadi RTCMS Vidyalaya and Marudankerni MTM Vidyalaya receive book stocks, worth Rs 72,500/= which were made available by the National Library and the Library Services Board.
On the same occasion, four Army formations serving the area received reading materials and book stocks to the value of Rs 15,000/= each for the use of soldiers in 551 Brigade, 18 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry battalion, 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment battalion and 20 Sri Lanka National Guard battalion.
The value of the stock, presented by the National Library and the Library Services Board for this project exceeded Rs 132,500/=. Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe attended the distribution ceremony as the chief guest.
Priests of Hindu and Catholic denominations, Mr N Thirulinganada, Divisional Secretary Marudankerny, Mr Satyasilan Divisional Secretary Palai, S Kandakumar, Zonal Director of Education Vadamarachchi, Mr K Ponnaiya, Zonal Director of Education Vadamarachchi, Mr Ananda Sivam, Division Education Director, Palai, OIC Marudankerny Police Station, Principals, Teachers and a large gathering of students attended the distribution ceremony.
