Giving their bit of share to the National Tree Planting campaign, the 222 Brigade Headquarters at Jayanthigama, Kantale, launched a similar drive by planting 1000 jak saplings in school compounds with the participation of Tamil and Muslim students.
The main ceremonies for inauguration of the project took place separately at Kantale, Wadukachchiya Muslim Vidyalaya and Ichchalanpattu Sri Sanpaha Vidyalaya, headed by principals, invitees and other government officials.
On the instructions of the 222 Brigade Commander, Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, soldiers serving the 222 Brigade are responsible for maintenance of those jak saplings until they grow older.
During those inaugural ceremonies, children were enlightened on the importance of tree planting and conservation of environment.
