Army Organizes 'On The Job' Training to Unemployed Females in Mannar

With the noble objective of upgrading economic standards of the people in Mannar, the 54 Division, has launched a district-wise project to provide an ‘on the job’ training to unemployed young men and women in the area.

The USAID under its international development project programme has sponsored the arrangement. The leading, Timex Garments (pvt) Ltd, has come forward to source these trainees in their establishment at the request of the 54 Division for a period of six months at one time.

The first batch of 32 unemployed young females, selected from the district for this training programme, left Mannar for their training centres at Wattala and Dematagoda on Thursday (24) after coordination work was done by the 54 Division Headquarters on the instructions of its General Officer Commanding, Brigadier M.A.M Dias.

Timex Garments (pvt) Ltd, planning to have one of its branches in Mannar shortly, expects to employ those trainees as supervisors in their new company after completion of the training in Colombo.

The programme is to continue in the future too.
