Army Chief Inspects 12 Division &;amp; Receives Updates On Army's Roles In Development Work

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army on Sunday (20) paid a visit to the newly established 12 Division Headquarters at Hambantota on the Security Forces Headquarters, South with a view to looking into its requirements.

Major General Sumith Manawadu, Commander Security Forces, South received the visiting Commander of the Army at the entrance to the premises in the company of several senior officers.

During his stay, the Commander after receiving an update on the roles played by the Army in assisting the measures taken by the government in development and other security roles in the southern area, gave instructions for various aspects of those projects and instructed those officers to expedite the completion.

Director General General Staff Major General K.J. Alwis and Senior officers serving the 12 Division were present at the occasion. General Officer Commanding presented the Commander with separate accounts on general security situation and other roles.

As one more feature in the itinerary, the Commander was invited to ceremonially open the new “Corporals’ Club” built at the premises. Brigadier D.S.N.K. Senadeera, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division and several other senior officers were associated with the ceremonial opening.

Before the Commander's exit from the premises he planted a mango sapling as a token of memory. Brigadier D.S.N.K. Senadeera adding monumental importance to the Commander’s visit presented a memento to him.
