22 Div Initiates Lecture Sessions to Promote Moral Values

A large gathering of more than 300 Army officers and other ranks, together with Navy, Air Force, Police, Civil Defence Force representatives, some State and Private sector officials serving Trincomalee recently, assembled at 22 Division Headquarters, Trincomalee to listen to a lecture, themed on ‘Citizensresponsibility for a society with moral values,’ organized by the 22 Division Headquarters.

Mr D.S.W Gunawardena, Senior lecturer, Faculty of Sociology and Humanities at Rajarata University, at the invitation of Brigadier Darshana Hettiaarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, delivered the two-hour long interesting lecture that covered a wide range of social and cultural issues that need to be considered in a multi- cultural milieu.

The lecture also touched upon questions of attitudes and approaches, social ethics, respect for human rights, problem-solving, harmony, religious sentiments, use and sharing of public property, civil rights, law enforcement, family concerns, education, language barriers, social responsibilities, decision-making, etc. A question-answer session followed.
         
The informative programme, meant to promote human values and spiritual advancement among the troops serving under the 22 Division, was one segment of a series of such educative seminars, being regularly organized by the 22 Division Headquarters for the benefit of serving troops.  
   
At the end of the lecture, Brigadier Hettiaarachchi, appreciative of his enlightening contribution to the gathering, presented a token of memory to the lecturer.

   
Meanwhile, following a requirement projected to the 22 Division Headquarters by members of the Maha Sangha, troops have pledged their support to build a new ‘Atavisi Bo Maluwa’ (substratum) around the Bodhiya at Trincomalee Sri Jayasumanarama Temple at a cost of Rs. 1.5 million.
   
Brigadier Darshana Hettiaarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division last week laid the foundation stone for its construction during a simple religious ceremony.
