Disable Civil Sportswomen From Kilinochchi To Attend Beijing Tournament


Turning a new page in the Sri Lanka’s sporting history Men’s and Women’s Sitting Volleyball teams will participate in the forthcoming Asian Sitting Volleyball Tournament, scheduled during Nov 17 - 26 in Beijing, China. The men’s team will comprise of 12 disable war heroes while the 12 member women’s team will include a disable female soldier and three rehabilitated ex-Female LTTE cadres from Kilinochchi area.

The selection of disable civilians, done in keeping with the fostering of North-South relations as per ‘Mahinda Chintana’ programme was carried out by the Army in close co-operation with District Secretariat officials in Kilinochchi as  a stimulus and a tribute to disable young sportspersons in the district.
       
An exhibition game with the participation of Sri Lanka’s Men’s Team took place at the Kilinochchi Badminton Indoor Stadium which will in turn attract more and more young disable sportsmen and women in the years to come. They will accordingly be given chances to select contestants for the forthcoming tournament in February 2012 in Egypt.

The Chief Instructor of the renowned German National team, Commander Security Forces Headquarters Kilinochchi Major General Nandana Udawatte and Chairman Dissable Volleyball Committee Major General E.P. De Z Abeysekara witnessed the exhibition game on Saturday (6).
