Demos in North Against UK Protest

People of Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Oddusudan participated in a massive demonstration Saturday, against LTTE elements in the UK who orchestrated anti-Sri Lanka protests in London earlier this week. Residents of Vishwamadu and Vallipuram were also among the protestors.

An unprecedented number of people attended the demonstrations, carrying placards against the LTTE and LTTE proxies in UK. A significant feature was the enthusiastic participation by women and children. The crowd burned effigies of Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman. They had cursed the remaining leaders and members of the LTTE rump living abroad. Traders also joined in the protest, closing their shops and hoisting black flags.

Placards mentioned that President Mahinda Rajapaksa brought peace after wiping out the LTTE, which took their freedom away and subjected them to untold hardships. “We are living in peace because of the President,” the demonstrators said. “We sleep soundly because of you President Rajapaksa” was another slogan.

“Our children are going to school without fear. They are learning and they have a clear future. Nobody is forcibly taking out our children with as did by the LTTE in past. We suffered a lot under LTTE control,” one of the protesters who came with her child said. (Courtesy: Daily News)
