Parama Weera Vibhushanaya
Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (Supreme Heroism Decoration) (Sinhalese: පරම වීර වීභූෂණය parama vīra vibhūṣanaya Tamil: பரம வீர விபுஷனைய), is the highest Sri Lankan military decoration equivalent to the British Victoria Cross (which was the highest decoration in the Ceylon Army till 1972), or the United States Medal of Honor, that is awarded as a reward for all ranks of the tri services (Regular/Volunteer) individual acts of gallantry and conspicuous bravery of the most exceptional order whilst on service.
Field Commanders report acts of individual and conspicuous acts of bravery to Service Commanders who forward reports and recommendations to a Tri-Services Board. Their report is sent to the President who makes the awards. Recipient of the decoration will be entitled to use the post-nominal letters "PWV" after his/her name.
The Weerodara Vibhushanaya (Heroism Decoration) (Sinhala: වීරෝදාර වීභූෂණය vīrōdāra vibhūṣanaya) medal and bar are the second highest Sri Lankan military decoration that is presented to soldiers and civilians as a reward for their individual acts of gallantry and prominent bravery of a most exceptional order performed which is of a non military nature of their own accord without any regard to the threat to his own life and security with the prime intention of saving or safeguarding the life or lives of a person or persons imperiled by death or for an extremely commendable act or a series of acts of human nature of an outstanding order shown in saving life from drowning, fire and rescue operations in mines, floods and similar calamities under circumstances of Grave Bodily Injury or great danger to the life of the rescuer. The degree of courage and promptitude shown will be taken into concern.
The medal is awarded to all ranks of the tri forces (Regular/Volunteer) and civilians, for their individual acts of gallantry which are of non military nature and for commendable acts of humane nature. The decoration will be presented by His/Her Excellency the President. Recipient of the decoration will be eligible to use the post-nominal letters "WV" after his name.
Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya
Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya (වීර වික්රම විභූෂණය; "Heroic Gallantry Decoration") medal and bar are the third-highest Sri Lankan military decorations that are presented to officers and other ranks as a reward for individual acts of gallantry and conspicuous bravery which is of a military nature of a high order in the face of the enemy, carried out voluntarily whilst on active service without any consideration of his own security with the prime intention of safeguarding the lives of his comrades or facilitating the operational aim of his force or for a highly commendable act or a series of acts of a human nature of high order shown in saving life from drowning, fire and rescue operations in mines, floods and similar calamities under circumstances of bodily injury or danger to the life of the rescuer. The degree of courage and promptitude displayed will be taken into concern.
The medal is awarded to all ranks of the tri forces (regular or volunteer) for individual acts of gallantry and heroism that are of a military nature, for highly commendable acts of a humane nature in facing the enemy. The decoration is presented by the president. The recipient of the decoration will be eligible to use the post-nominal letters WWV after his name.
Rana Wickrama Padakkama
The Rana Wickrama Padakkama ("Combat Gallantry Medal") (Sinhala රණ වික්රම පදක්කම raṇa vikrama padakkama) medal and bar are presented to Sri Lankan military officers and other ranks as a reward for individual or allied acts of heroism in facing the enemy and performed of their own accord.
It is ordained that the decoration shall be granted to all ranks of tri forces of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka for individual or associated acts of bravery in the face of the enemy and performed voluntarily and who are recommended by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Commander of the Navy or the Commander of the Air Force to receive the award under the terms and conditions defined in the regulations hereinafter made.
Rana Sura Padakkama
The Rana Sura Padakkama (Combat Excellence Medal) (Sinhala: රණ ශූර පදක්කම raṇa śūra padakkama) is a medal presented to members of all ranks of the Military of Sri Lanka for individual and/or associated acts of heroism in facing the enemy and performed of their own accord. The decoration is presented by the President of Sri Lanka. Recipients of the decoration are eligible to use the post-nominal letters RSP after the name.
Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya
The Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya (විශිෂ්ට සේවා විභූෂණය "Distinguished Service Decoration") medal and bar are presented to Sri Lankan senior military officers of the nation's three services, given that their loyal service is of not less than 25 years and possess a perfectly flawless record of moral and military conduct, will be appropriate for the award. The service required to be eligible for the decoration should be continuous uninterrupted service. The Service Commanders will be the sole judges of the standard of conduct required and will be responsible for recommending only those persons who are in every way worthy of the distinction and whose conduct has been irreproachable throughout their service. The standard required for a grading of irreproachable shall be a personal record clear of entries during the whole of the qualifying period and no recommendations should be submitted when this condition has not been fulfilled. Every recipient of the decoration shall be eligible for second conferment during his lifetime. The Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya will be an exclusive award and will normally be awarded to officers of the rank of and above that of Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, Commander in the Navy and Wing Commander in the Air Force.
Utthama Seva Padakkama
The Uttama Seva Padakkama (උත්තම සේවා පදක්කම "Meritorious Service Medal") is presented to all ranks of the Regular Forces of the Sri Lankan military for valuable service and dedication to duty with the outstanding ability, merit and excellent conduct, given that they count not less than 15 years continuous and uninterrupted service and possess and perfectly flawless record of moral and military conduct.
Videsha Seva Padakkama
The Videsha Seva Padakkama(විදේශ සේවා පදක්කම "Foreign Service Medal") medal will be granted to all ranks of the Regular and Volunteer Forces of the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Sri Lanka for active service outside the territorial limits of the Island, given that such service is linked with active service in an overseas military assignment or campaign or in the defense of Sri Lanka or for service connected with military or peace keeping operations conducted under the support of the United Nations Organization as defined in the regulations hereinafter made.
Republic Of Sri Lanka Armed Services Medal 1972
The Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal shall be granted to All regular officers and other ranks of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force, who complete 12 years continuous service and whose character and conduct have been irreproachable and who are recommended by their General officer commanding/Area Commanders/Commanding Officers to receive the award. Periods of desertion or absence without leave and period of detention or imprisonment will not be admissible as qualifying service. It replaced the Ceylon Armed Services Long Service Medal in 1972 when Sri Lanka became a republic.
It is to be noted that service in the armed services of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka not involving whole time military service, shall not reckon as qualifying service for the medal, except that when such Reserves or Volunteer Force are mobilized, embodied or called out on active service in an emergency, the period during which a member of such Reserves of Volunteer Forces is actually employed on whole-time service, shall reckon as qualifying service.
Desha Putra Sammanaya
The Desha Putra Sammanaya (දේශ පුත්ර සමිමානය, dēśa putra sammānaya, "Son of the Country Award") is a Sri Lankan military decoration, equivalent to United States Purple Heart that awarded to those who are killed or wounded in combat.
North And East Operations Medal
The North and East Operations Medal is presented to all ranks of the Regular and Volunteer Forces of the military of the Republic of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Police, who have served in the Northern and Eastern provinces for an accumulated period of 3 years since July 23, 1983.
Riviresa Campaign Service Medal
The Riviresa Campaign Services Medal (In Sinhalese:වඩමාරච්චි මෙහෙයුම් පදක්කම) is presented to all ranks of the Regular and Volunteer Forces of the military of the Republic of Sri Lanka and to those who have served in Operation Riviresa.
