Troops of the 553 Infantry Brigade of the 55 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna with the sincere motive of popularizing Beach Volleyball among the youth in Vadamarachchi - East in the Jaffna peninsula organized a comprehensive training session on Sunday (12 February) after inviting them to the Talaidy Beach.
Members of 15 sports clubs in the peninsula enthusiastically underwent training, spearheaded by Army Beach Volleyball trainers and coaches, along with civil experts after a display match was played by Army trainers and qualified civil trainers in the presence of the gathering.
The event was organized by troops of the 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment of the 553 Infantry Brigade with the blessings of the Commander, Security Forces- Jaffna, General Officers Commanding of the 55 Division and the 553 Brigade Commander.
General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunarathne graced the inaugural occasion as the Chief Guest.
Divisional Secretary Mr. Sachindran Kabilram, Senior Officers, Officers, OIC at Maruthankerni Police, Grama Niladari officials and more than 100 sport-loving youth in the area participated in the day's event.
