  • Army Chief warns Ex-Army Personnel Against Abusing Uniform


    Army Chief Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayake yesterday (9) said that the ex-army personnel contesting the forthcoming Provincial Council polls for Southern and Western Provinces shouldn’t wear uniform of any type under any circumstances. Anyone abusing the uniform should be prepared to face the consequences, Lt. Gen. Ratnayake said. Lt. Gen. Ratnayake insisted that the Military Police would take necessary action to prevent ex-personnel from using the uniform for political purposes.

    General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 24 Division has taken initiative to conduct a Tamil Language Training Course for the officers and other ranks serving the 24 Division from Wednesday (05) onwards.     Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) with its reputed history of more than 118 years, is to be teethed with more and more professionals from both public and private sectors after revitalizing its voluntary reserve in the SLAVF under the awareness programme, called “Api Army” (We are Army). This was formally announced on Tuesday (11) during a media briefing, held at Nelum Pokuka Mahinda Rajapaksa theatre, attended by military personnel and two state officials, awaiting to be enlisted shortly to the SLAVF voluntary reserve.
