Nepal's Army Chief Bids Goodbye


Nepal’s Army Chief of Staff, General Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana and his delegation after their successful six-day long sojourn  in Sri Lanka  at the invitation of Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, left  Sri Lanka for Nepal Thursday (6) afternoon, leaving behind an array of unforgettable memories.

The delegation, headed by General Rana comprised Mrs Rohini Rana, Spouse of Nepal's Chief of Army Staff, Major General Rajendra Chhetri, Quarter Master General, Nepal Army and Major Gelong Lama, Assistant to Nepal's Chief of Army Staff, arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday (1) to a red carpet welcome and met Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander, Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna before visiting several places of interest.  A banquet, hosted by the Army honoured him Wednesday (5) night with a toast raised by Commander of the Army, his host in Sri Lanka.     

At the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, Major General Crishantha de Silva, Chief of Staff saw Nepal’s Army Chief take leave of his host, Sri Lanka Army in keeping with military traditions.

General Rana after a brief interaction with the Chief of Staff at the VIP lounge thanked the Army for all excellent arrangements and presented him a symbolic memento. Major General Crishantha de Silva immortalized his visit to Sri Lanka by gifting a photo album that contains visual images of his stay in Sri Lanka.

Brigadier D.T Gamage, Director, Directorate of Personnel Administration, Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, Liaison Officer and several senior officers were present at the airport to see him off.       

The visit, seen as a gesture for further promotion of existing relations and bonds of friendship that have been flourishing for generations in two Buddhism-dominated nations, took place in response to a formal invitation, extended to General  Rana by his Sri Lanka's counterpart, a long-term friend of General Rana.
