Troops Support Pilgrims Climbing Sri Paada

Troops serving the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) at the request of Ven Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Chief Incumbent for Sri Paada, offered their maximum support for conduct of the ceremonial opening of the newly-established Dolosmahe Lantern and the Temple Bell atop the most sacred Sri Paada hill on Friday (7).

The Pirith chanting ceremony, prior to the opening (7) at Nallatanniya Sri Paada Dharma Centre, got underway on Thursday (6) under the aegis of prelates and members of the Maha Sangha of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters and all other sects and with the participation of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development as the Chief Guest at the Pirith chanting, together with Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, tri service officers, state officials and a host of devotees.

Troops facilitated the passage of feeble monks and devotees with the help of mock palanquins and structures to the top of the hill, despite chilling weather while another section of the SFHQ-C troops, provided refreshments, herbal drinks, coffee and tea, seating arrangements for rest, blankets and clothes to those climbing the sacred hill at Nallatanni, Gangulatenna, Rathu Ambalama and Indikatupana on the way to the Sri Paada top.

In addition, Army medical officers and staff with several medical teams were at hand along the track road to the top of the hill, caring for those devotees on their way up and down.

2 & 3 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 1 & 2 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps troops of the 112 Brigade under 11 Division of the SFHQ-C contributed to the success of the programmes on both days.
