One more round of cordial meetings between representatives of inmates at Jaffna-based open welfare camps and the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), took place on Wednesday (5) at Palaly with the objective of learning and sharing of common concerns.
A group of 11 civil society leaders, including Mr. A. Gunabalasingham, Chairman, Resettlement Development Committee of Valikamam North, Mr. Cyril Anthony Kuil, Chairman, 10 Integrated Welfare Centres (Muham) representing 12 Muhams, were present at the meeting, chaired by Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J.
Matters related to resettlement in original places of residence of those camp inmates were taken up for discussion during the meeting.
Major General Perera assured that the SFHQ-J once exact statistics and respective legal documents, pertaining to your legal ownership of the lands are received, the Army would release such lands as early as possible.
Divisional Secretariat, Ministry of Resettlement and Rehabilitation, different other state authorities after verification of claims for lands, still under the use of SFHQ-J are expected to submit your claims as regards release of lands. This will definitely happen but takes time, the SFHQ-J Commander has reportedly told the meeting.
Mr. Cyril Anthony Kuil, Chairman, 10 Integrated Welfare Centres (Muham) praised the Army for its speedy action on release of private lands and for downsizing of the number of guard and sentry points in the Jaffna town.
