Army Moments

Due to the prevailing high temperature weather condition, the water level of the Mahaweli River has decreased significantly. Upon a request made by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Government Agent, Kandy, troops of the 6th Field Engineer Regiment, 5 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps constructed a temporary bund using over 5,000 sandbags from 07 to 11 April 2026 to fulfil the water requirement in Digana area.


Major General C.D. Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc ceremonially assumed duties as the 25th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on 04 April 2026 at the Regimental Centre, Panagoda, in accordance with military customs and traditions. Upon arrival, the newly appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly received by the Centre Commandant, Colonel N.K.B.S. Jayasekara, at the main entrance and was honoured with a Guard Turnout. In a solemn gesture of remembrance, he laid a wreath at the monument in tribute to the fallen war heroes of the Corps. This was followed by a vibrant Guard of Honour at the parade ground.


Lance Corporal K.K.P.K. Rathnayaka of the 22nd Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, serving under the Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations of the Sri Lanka Army, took steps to return a lost wallet containing Rs. 80,000.00 and several valuable documents to its rightful owner, a Myanmar Buddhist monk, on 07 April 2026 at the Godagama Purana Viharaya. The soldier had discovered the wallet on a bus travelling from Pettah to Avissawella.
