The Special Forces Regiment celebrated its 29th Anniversary on 03 January 2026 with a series of formal events held at the Regimental Centre.

Major General P.S. Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, assumed duties as the 9th Commander of 1 Corps on 05 January 2026 during a formal ceremony held at its Headquarters.

Brigadier M.R Hameem USP assumed duties as the 11th Director of Information Technology on 02 January 2026 during a simple ceremony held at the Directorate of Information Technology.

Brigadier W. S. Ravindra Kumara USP lsc assumed duties as the Director, Directorate of Army Bands & Performing Arts on 01 January 2026. After assuming duties, the new Director addressed the troops.

Major General H.M.G.E. Herath RSP USP ndu psc assumed office as the 30th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 55 Infantry Division at its headquarters in Kilinochchi on 02 January 2026.

Major General M.J.R.S Medagoda RSP USP ndc psc IG assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 11 Infantry Division on 29 December 2025 amidst religious blessings and military formalities at the 11 Infantry Division Headquarters in Pallekele.

Brigadier M.K.D.P. Mapalagama psc assumed duties as the new Director of the Directorate of Operations on 22 December 2025 at the Army Headquarters.

Brigadier R.P. Munipura (Retd) RWP RSP passed away on 1 January 2026 following an acute medical condition while receiving treatment at the Base Hospital, Kiribathgoda. He was 55 years old at the time of his demise.

Brigadier I.H.S. Wijesena (Retd) passed away on 30 December 2025. He was 63 years old at the time of his demise.

The 29th Anniversary of the 55 Infantry Division was commemorated on 15 December 2025 at the Division in Kilinochchi.
