    Students learning from nine schools in newly resettled villages in Mannar on Monday (6) received school stationery, shoes and other sports equipment through a donation organized and coordinated by the Army’s 613 Brigade under 61 Division.   • Once Infamous Chalai Sea Revives its Traditional Fishing Industry

    About 70 families of the fishing community in Chundikulam, Chalai and Peperaputti areas after absence of 30 years resumed their traditional fishing livelihoods on Saturday (4) after Sri Lanka Army cleared LTTE minefields and declared areas safe for living. Messrs C.M.H.M. Wijeratne (Kuwait), M.A.K.K. Girihagama (Oman), Kalyananda Godage (Malaysia), Asitha Perera (Italy), Tissa Wijeratne (Korea), Handunnetti Ratnapala Piyasiri (Myanmar), Admiral A.S.P. Samarasinghe (Australia), Ms Priyamali Dissanayake and Nayana Priyangani were among the members of designate ambassadors.

    Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the coordination of all Divisions, Brigades and Area Headquarters under (SFHQ-W) took necessary elaborate measures to commemorate Poson Full Moon Poya Day in their respective areas. Considering mammoth crowds that would throng Anuradhapura for Poson, the cradle of Buddhist civilization, the Area Headquarters at Anuradhapura organized a large-scale Dansela (free eatery) for the benefit of devotees on the directions.....

    Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Training Centre at Galkulama, Anuradhapura is one among ten island-wide institutes that received the accolade, ‘Haritha Rekiya Award,’ presented by Ministry of Environment. To coincide with the World Environment Day, Ministry of Environment in recognition of social service roles, being undertaken by the SLAC Training Centre at Galkulama, awarded this accolade during a ceremony at Pinnawala National School, attended by Speaker, Mr Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister of Environment Mr Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and several other distinguished guests.....

  • Splendours of 'Poson' Festival Assumes More Colourfulness And Grandeur As SVAB Joins Army In Devotional Song Presentation

     
    A rare spectacle of ‘Poson’ devotional songs, coloured with symbolic events of historic importance was staged at the Army Gymnasium Panagoda by Army personnel and their family members on Sunday (19) evening before a galaxy of distinguished guests.  Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya accompanied by President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
     
  • Soldiers Offer Lunch to Elderly at Puttur

     
    Troops attached to Atchelu-based 511 Brigade in Jaffna recently treated the inmates at the Puttur Elders’ Home to lunch on account of the Poson Full Moon Poya Day. The Puttur Elders’ Home provides shelter to about 50 elderly men and women who have no source of income for survival or any relatives to call theirs. In some instances, children of most of those elders are living abroad and have completely forgotten them.....
