SFHQ-W Marks Poson with Dansela, Pandal &;amp; Temple Building Projects

Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the coordination of all Divisions, Brigades and Area Headquarters under (SFHQ-W) took necessary elaborate measures to commemorate Poson Full Moon Poya Day in their respective areas.

Considering mammoth crowds that would throng Anuradhapura for Poson, the cradle of Buddhist civilization, the Area Headquarters at Anuradhapura organized a large-scale Dansela (free eatery) for the benefit of devotees on the directions given by Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, (SFHQ-W). All arrangements in this connection were put in place by Brigadier Lalith Abeywardena, Area Commander for Anuradhapura.

Major General A.K.S Perera, accompanied by Brigadier A.S.D.Z Wickramarathne, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, Brigadier Lalith Abeywardena and several senior officers inaugurated the distribution of free meals to pilgrims as dusk fell. Many soldiers actively took part in the project.

Meanwhile, Pudukulam area in Wanni became a major attraction for people after a special Poson pandal was erected by troops in the 214 Brigade. The 40 ft tall and 36 ft wide pandal that depicted one of the life stories of the Buddha was unveiled by Brigadier N.A.P.C Napagoda, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division on the Poson day. Hundreds of Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese flocked there to witness illuminations and the pandal.

In the meantime, fulfilling a long-felt spiritual need of the villagers at Kokeliya village in Vavuniya, the Maha Karuna Foundation in Singapore is to construct a new abode (Sanghawasaya) for Buddhist monks living in the village temple. The foundation stone laying ceremony, headed by Ven Singapore’s Gunerathana Thero took place recently.

Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, (SFHQ-W),   Brigadier N.A.P.C Napagoda, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division, Brigadier D.A.R Ranawaka, Brigade Commander, 561 Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel C. Ranaweera, Brigade Commander, 563 Brigade were associated with the foundation-laying ceremony. Many civilians in the area also took part in the day’s ceremony.
