  • Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Association Donates Ambulance & Fire Engines

    A WORTHY donation over Rs. 72 million in value was handed over to Sri Lanka Army by Japan - Sri Lanka Friendship Association in a special function held at Army Headquarters Monday (17). The donation which included one vehicle, designed specially to transport disabled personnel, one ambulance and two fire engines was made by Japan - Sri Lanka Friendship Association with the coordination of Ven. Hanwelle Dhammaloka Thero, the chief incumbent of Thalangama Shailarukkharamaya and Patron of the Association. Chairman of the donating organization Dr. Lal Thilakarathna, symbolizing the donation of vehicles delivered a model key to the  Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.

  • One More LTTE Thermo Baric Weapon Found

    WANNI/EAST/NORTH: A stock of T-56 weapons and a large number of anti personnel mines were recovered by the Task Force-VIII troops conducting search and clear operations in PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU area on Tuesday (18). Fifty T-56 weapons and eight thousand and sixteen anti personnel mines haphazardly laid by the LTTE during their presence in those areas to trap the advancing troops were unearthed on Tuesday (18). Meanwhile, search and clear operations in the same area and also ADAMPAN, AMPAKAMAM, and KUDUMBIMALE areas.....

  • Army Troops Bring Life to Dilapidated Hindu Temples

    WHILE performing duties to ensure security in respective areas, Jaffna-based Army troops continue to assist civil society in numerous ways to uplift their living standards. Troops in 52 Division during the past few days organized several welfare measures in different locations within their areas of command. On 11th August, 3 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops organized a “Shramadana” campaign to clean the temple yard of Iyanagar Hindu Kovil in Punidanagar since this holy place remained untidy for some time.

  • De-mining Team Unearths Human Skeleton & LTTE T-56 Magazines

    NORTH: A FOREIGN de-mining team engaged in de-mining work in the general area of PHALLAKKULI, MANNAR on Wednesday (19) unearthed one human skeleton, one pouch and four T-56 magazines, suspected to have belonged to LTTE and one LTTE uniform while they were engaged in de-mining works. Meanwhile, troops on search and clear operations in the general area of PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU on Wednesday (19) recovered one Global Positioning System  (GPS), one I-com set, two pistol magazines, two hand grenades, two Arul bombs, five hundred rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition........

  • All Set For Demining - Senior Presidential Advisor: No Deliberate Delay in Resettlement

    SENIOR PRESIDENTIAL ADVISOR Basil Rajapaksa MP who is also the Chairman of the Uthuru Vasanthaya program yesterday reiterated that the full machinery was now in place to speed up the de-mining in the North to resettle the displaced civilians as it is a prerequisite for the resettlement of the displaced civilians safely. He refuted allegations by the Opposition that the Government was deliberately delaying the resettlement of IDPs saying that the delay was only to ensure that the land is safe for resettlement through an intense de-mining operation.

  • Nallur Festival Draws over 50,000

    Devotees numbering close to 50,000 flocked to the Nallur Kumaran Kovil in Jaffna yesterday (19) for the 24th day of the annual festival being held for the first time since the end of the conflict. Meanwhile, considering the large number of devotees flocking to the annual Nallur Kovil festival in Jaffna, Government completely lifted from Tuesday evening the curfew that was in force between 12 midnight and 4.00 a.m. in the Jaffna peninsula.

  • Commander's Regiment Extends Military Honours During His Visit

    VALIANT troops of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps extended their best wishes and military honours to the new Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Thursday (20) morning when he visited his Regimental Headquarters for the first time upon assumption of duties as Commander. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya entered the Regimental premises in 1980 as 2nd Lieutenant and remains.....

  • Troops Still Collect LTTE Arms & Ammunitions

    WANNI & EAST: ARMY TROOPS engaged in search and clear operations in the general areas of IRANAMADU, VISUAMADU, PUTHUKKUDDIYIRUPPU, SUGANDHIPURAM and KUPPILANKULAM on Thursday (20) recovered  thirty Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), nine hand grenades, seven hundred and twenty-three rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, forty-three anti personnel mines, six booby traps, nine thousand and four hundred rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, twelve thousand two hundred and twenty-seven rounds of T-56 ammunition, two micro pistol magazines, eight shotgun cartridges....

  • Sri Lankans in New Zealand Help War Heroes

    SRI LANKANS living in New Zealand having got together under United Sri Lanka Association in Wellington, New Zealand  made a donation of NZ $ 10,000/= (New Zealand Dollars) to Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) for the use of welfare activities of War Heroes who became disable during Humanitarian Operations. With the coordination of the President SVAB Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President of the United Sri Lanka Association Mr. Channa Ranasinghe donated the cheque to the SVAB.

  • Commander Offers His Gratitude to A'pura Medical Staff

    MEDICAL officers, nursing and para medical staff at the Anuradhapura General Hospital came in for praise this morning (21) for their dedicated services provided to War Heroes, brought there for urgent medical attention during the height of Wanni humanitarian operations.Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who took time off to show his gratitude to them visited Anuradhapura and met all members of staff at the hospital who attended on War Heroes. He personally commended them for their untiring role during a special meeting, convened at the Nursing Training School auditorium for this particular purpose.
