Commander's Regiment Extends Military Honours During His Visit

VALIANT troops of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps extended their best wishes and military honours to the new Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Thursday (20) morning when he visited his Regimental Headquarters for the first time upon assumption of duties as Commander.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya entered the Regimental premises in 1980 as 2nd Lieutenant and remains a proud product of the Regiment up until now.
 
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on arrival at the Rock House Regimental Headquarters was warmly received by Major General N.A Ranasinghe, Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and conducted to inspect the Guard Turnout. Brigadier Janaka Rathnayaka, Center Commandant received the Commander at the parade ground entrance. Guard Turnout inspection followed the Guard of Honour, accorded to him in accordance with military traditions. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya in the company of the parade commander, Major Priyantha Kariyawasam afterwards made his way to the special dais.

In his brief address to the troops on the occasion, Commander of the Army reminded the troops of their achievements and future responsibilities that lie ahead and urged them to be more committed for national development work, launched by the government across the country. 

Later on, the visiting Commander was conducted to the officers’ mess where he met both local and foreign media personnel who had come there to cover the day’s proceedings. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during his interaction with the media opined that he wished to increase the Army manpower by recruiting some 25,000-50,000 men in order to fill the existing vacancies in the Army and also to match with development programmes. He also has told that the Army would send more and more of its Engineers for additional De-mining work in the near future.
