A WORTHY donation over Rs. 72 million in value was handed over to Sri Lanka Army by Japan - Sri Lanka Friendship Association in a special function held at Army Headquarters Monday (17).
The donation which included one vehicle, designed specially to transport disabled personnel, one ambulance and two fire engines was made by Japan - Sri Lanka Friendship Association with the coordination of Ven. Hanwelle Dhammaloka Thero, the chief incumbent of Thalangama Shailarukkharamaya and Patron of the Association.
Chairman of the donating organization Dr. Lal Thilakarathna, symbolizing the donation of vehicles delivered a model key to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
In addition, the donation included twenty-five wheelchairs, three hundred pairs of spectacles and two hundred of sportswear sets.
The Colombo Fort Lions’ Club and Lion Saliya Kaluarachchi of District 306 Lions Club sponsored the shipment to the island.
Japan- Sri Lanka Friendship Association has so far made a number of valuable donations to the Army since 1999.
