  • Mullaittivu Kannaki Amman Festival Receives Active Army Support


    Mullaittivu Wattapalai Kannaki Amman Kovil (temple) which traces its history to be on par with Chilaw Munnashwaram Kovil, Trincomalee Koneshwaram Kovil and Mannar Thirukeshwaram Kovil, had its recent annual Pooja festival on a grand scale with the support of Army troops serving the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT).

  • Medical Consultation Provided to 300 Civilians


    More than 300 civilians in Veherathanna, and Buddhangala villages in the 62 Division area, Vavuniya, received medical consultations from a clinic organized by the Army at 26 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Headquarters premises on Sunday (2).  Conduct of the clinic coupled with donation of sanitary-ware among civilians in those areas. Brigadier K.G.D Perera General Officer Commanding 62 Division coordinated this clinic.

  • Army Body Builder Wins Silver in Asian Tournament


    Army body builder, Lance Corporal M.W.R Jayasundera in the recently concluded 47th Asian Body Building Championship Tournament in Kazakhstan, won Silver in the 55 kg weight category. Beating body builders from 22 other Asian countries, a Gold medal was secured by Wasantha Peiris of Wattala Atlas Sports Club in the 55 kg category. Winning of the Silver medal in the same event by the Army’s Jayasundera from Sri Lanka assumed special significance in the tournament.
     
  • 61 Division Marks Its 5th Birth Anniversary


    Giving pride of place to religious observances and collective events, the 61 Division Headquarters in Vavuniya on Thursday (30) marked its 5th Anniversary. Buddhist, Islamic, Catholic and Hindu religious rites and rituals were conducted at the 61 Division Headquarters premises earlier on the day before several sports and marathon events got underway, the same day (30).
  • Women's Corps Entertains Kids to Lunch


    50 kids learning at Thirumurukkandi Indupuram pre-school in Kilinochchi were treated to a sumptuous lunch and gifted with school accessories on Monday (3). The arrangement that coincided with the World Children’s Day was sponsored by 6 (v) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) serving the area. The occasion saw those kids staging a variety show before the lunch treat. 50 gift parcels were also given to those kids at the same occasion.

    Sri Lanka Army runners, in the just concluded three-day BoC Relay Carnival - 2013 at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium made two new Sri Lankan records and won the overall Inter-Club Men’s Championship. Army athletes in the open event category established a new record in the 4 x 1500m event with a new timing of 15.52.99 seconds which eclipsed the existing record....

  • Army Boxers Do Well in ABA Boxing Tournament


    ABA Intermediate Boxing Tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Boxing Association (novice) was competed by 156 boxers, belonging to 16 boxing leagues, including those of the Army at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium during May 27 - 31. Sri Lanka Army boxers won the championship in 3 weight categories and the runners-up slots in 4 weight categories, in addition to seven third slots they won in the tournament.
