Sri Lanka Armoured Corps’ (SLAC), the most-awaited racing event, Cavalry Supercross - 2013 is to be a reality on forthcoming Sunday (June 16) at Pangolla Army Track in Kurunegala for the fourth consecutive year, it was announced at a Press Conference on Wednesday (5) at SLAC Regimental Headquarters, Colombo 15.
This year’s event, comprised of 22 racing events as usual is to be held in collaboration with Sri Lanka Auto-sports Drivers Association (SLADA), attracting leading drivers and riders both locally and abroad.
The Ironside Track, lying adjacent to the embankment of the scenic Deduru Oya faces against a range of magnificent hills and soothing greenery of rural Sri Lanka and offers most daring challenges to the competitors.
The Cavalry Supercross is a major event in the annual National Motor Racing and Riding calendar in the country and remains a crowd puller.
A large number of Armoured Corps members sacrificed their lives during the 30 years of war against terrorism and many others were injured in the battlefield, affecting the well-being of their families.
Cavalry Supercross is a great attempt to raise funds to provide such gallant heroes and their families with welfare facilities. Cavalry Supercross is also aimed at promoting motor sports interests in the country. It has now become one of the most popular racing events in the country.
