Mullaittivu Kannaki Amman Festival Receives Active Army Support


Mullaittivu Wattapalai Kannaki Amman Kovil (temple) which traces its history to be on par with Chilaw Munnashwaram Kovil, Trincomalee Koneshwaram Kovil and Mannar Thirukeshwaram Kovil, had its recent annual Pooja festival on a grand scale with the support of Army troops serving the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT).

On the first day of the festival, more than 30,000 devotees were treated to hot meals in a mammoth Dansela that coincided with the first day of Vesak (May 23) at Hindu Temple premises.

Days ahead of the Kovil festival, hundreds of troops at the request of Kovil priests, cleaned up the entire premises and illuminated the Kovil with bulbs provided by the Army and the Kovil Trust.

Chief trustee of the Kannaki Amman Kovil (temple) hailed the Army for its overwhelming support for the successful conduct of the festival which was comprised of Kavadi processions and other colourful features.

SFHQ-MLT at the request of the Kovil trustee, a special helicopter made available by the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development sprinkled jasmine flowers as the final grand Pooja at the Kovil got underway on May 27 afternoon. 

The festival that commenced on May 23 went on till May 28 with the participation of a record crowd of devotees from areas such as Jaffna, Mannar, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Chilaw, Colombo, etc.

Major General L.B.R Mark, Security Force Commander, Mullaittivu attended the Pooja at the Kovil accompanied by officers and other ranks.
