  • SLC Selected Fast Bowlers to be Absorbed into Army Cricket Pool


    The Inter Battalion Softball 20/20 Cricket Tournament, intended to further promote cricket among Army personnel and identify budding cricketers, got off the ground beginning September 23 at respective Security Force Headquarters (SFHQs) levels with the coordination of Army Cricket Committee. Sri Lanka Cricket offered its assistance for promotion of the game at Wanni (Sept 23), Mullaittivu (Sept 24), Kilinochchi (Sept 25) and Jaffna (Sept 26) by sending its fast ball trainer, Mr Ravindra Pushpakumara.

  • Gajaba Regiment's Heroic Sacrifices Remembered in Anniversary Event


    Gajaba Regiment, one of the most prestigious and battle-hardened fighting units of the Sri Lanka Army, marked its 30th anniversary with a dinner night at Colombo Hilton on Sunday (5). Gajaba Regiment, raised under the leadership of then Lieutenant Colonel Wijeya Wimalaratne on 14 October 1983 merging the 1 Battalion of Rajarata Rifles and Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, has now a troop strength of about 711 officers and over 15,000 other ranks.
  • Professional Competence of SRIBAT in Haiti Lauded


    19th Sri Lankan UN contingent of the armed forces, currently engaged in welfare and emergency relief operations in Haiti under the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), has received commendation from the MINUSTAH Force Commander Lieutenant General Jose Luiz Jaborandy for its exclusive contribution, made in the evacuation of victims in a bus accident that claimed 23 lives on the spot in September, this year.
