Islamic Religious Rituals Invoke Blessings on Forthcoming Army Day &;amp; Its 65th Anniversary

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, together with a representative group of officers and other ranks, joined prayer sessions at Dawatagaha Shrine and Masjid at Colombo Town Hall junction this evening (3) as part of the religious ceremonies that coincides with the forthcoming Army’s 65th anniversary and Army Day. 

After lighting the oil lamp of the Dawatagaha Shrine and Masjid and garlanding the holy place, Ziharath of Sheik Usman Valiyullah in the shrine in conformity with Islamic religious traditions, the prayers began after Al Haj M. Reyyaz Salley, Chairman, Dawatagaha Shrine and Masjid received the Commander and his retinue at the entrance to the Mosque and conducted them to the inner shrine.

The customary Islamic religious prayers, one of the forerunners to the forthcoming Army 65th anniversary, led by the Maulavi, Rev. Hassan Moulana, together with the Sinhala prayer session, performed by Rev. Qari Faizer Hassan , invoked blessings on the organization, lauding the services, being rendered by the Army for the best interests of the country.

The event, organized by the Chairman, Colonel M.H.F Yusuf and members of the Army Muslim Association, took place with the participation of many Muslim members of the Army and the general public.

Lieutenant General Ratnayake towards the end of the religious ceremony at the request of the clergy and the Chairman, signed the VIP book, maintained at the Mosque. Afterwards he made a monetary contribution towards further development of its religious activities.

Friday’s Islamic ceremony was the third leg of the series of anniversary events that has been organized, on behalf of serving Muslim members of the Army. The two previous Buddhist ceremonies at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy and Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya were attended by hundreds of representative members of the Army earlier this week.
