Professional Competence of SRIBAT in Haiti Lauded

19th Sri Lankan UN contingent of the armed forces, currently engaged in welfare and emergency relief operations in Haiti under the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), has received commendation from the MINUSTAH Force Commander Lieutenant General Jose Luiz Jaborandy for its exclusive contribution, made in the evacuation of victims in a bus accident that claimed 23 lives on the spot in September, this year.

The Force Commander’s commendation to the Sri Lanka Battalion (SRIBAT), addressed to Colonel W.H.K.S Peiris, SRIBAT Commander, recognizes the excellent work of the SRIBAT troops, no sooner than the bus tragedy in Petit Goave, occurred as the first respondents to the scene.

“The SRIBAT under the leadership of Colonel Peiris provided an outstanding example for others to aspire to something that by itself adds credit to the importance of their role in the Military Component of the MINUSTAH. As the Force Commander, I congratulate them on the level of professional competence and technical expertise that has been provided to the survivors of this terrible tragedy. The Force Commander’s special commendation is awarded to recognize the excellent work of Colonel W.H.K.S Peiris and his Battalion,” the commendation signed jointly by Force Commander and Deputy Force Commander further said.
