  • Officer Offers Lunch to Orphans in Haiti


    Children at Leogane Orphanage in Haiti were entertained to a lunch by Sri Lankan troops serving Haiti. The treat organized to commemorate the 7th day remembrance of the late father of Major A.M.C.K Goonetillake who is also serving Haiti, was attended by several senior officers serving the Sri Lankan Battalion in Leogane, Haiti.

    The recently completed, ‘Trail,’ the walk that covered a distance of some 670 km from southern Dondra to Point Pedro for the noble objective of collecting funds for a new Cancer Unit at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, proved a huge success, say Mr Nathan Sivagananathan, Director, Colours of Courage Trust and Member, ‘Trail’ organizing committee and Mr Sarinda Unamboowe, Member Organizing Committee in a joint letter sent to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
  • RETIREMENT - REGULATION PROCESS AND PRACTICE


    The regulations pertaining to the retirement of Officers and Other Ranks from the Sri Lanka Army is set out in the under-mentioned enactments: a. The Army Act, No 17 of 1949, b. Army Officers’ Service Regulation (Regular Force) 1992, c. Army Pensions and Gratuities Code, 1981. d.  Army Medical and Dental Officers Regulations, 1961.
  • Maximum Penalty for Peace Violators - Defence Secretary

     
    The government yesterday stressed that it will deal firmly with terrorist elements who were responsible for recent incidents in several parts of the country. According to Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the maximum punishment will be meted out to the criminals who were involved in the murder of a policeman in Puttalam. He said that the government is bound to ensure the security for each and every person in the country and criminals who are involved in certain incidents in several parts of the country would be brought to book soon.
     
  • Commander Joins 'Ifthar' Celebrations

     

    Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya joined Muslim members of the Sri Lanka Army to celebrate ‘Ifthar’, breaking of Ramadan fast last evening (23) at a fast-breaking event, organized at Wadduwa Holiday Resort, Wadduwa. The event was organized by the Muslims Association of the Sri Lanka Army under the patronage of its President Brigadier M. Z. R. Sallay. ‘Ifthar’ celebrations marked for the first time in the Army took place in accordance with the wishes of the Commander who wants all religious and cultural identities be accommodated equally in the organization.
