COC Trustee Mr Dian Gomes, in a letter addressed to Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, extends his profuse thanks to the Army for its arrangements throughout the walk from Dondra to Point Pedro, in order to make the project a resounding success.
Excerpts of the letter are as follows;
‘The assistance you provided in uncountable ways to make our journey a triumphant one has been truly heartening. Not only were security measures more than adequate, but we were also encouraged by your troops throughout the walk, especially during the last stages of our journey; theirs was a true display of commitment and determination to see our walkers through. The camps provided our teams with the best facilities to make their brief stay comfortable. It is with deep gratitude and respect that I thank each and every officer in the Army for their time and effort spent to make Trail and its walkers reach their goal.
To date, the total funds raised amount to USD 1.39 million (LKR 153 million), and your support extended towards this worthy cause has further affirmed my belief of true spirit of Sri Lankans.
My gratitude goes out to you and the armed forces of Sri Lanka once again on behalf of those behind the Trail initiative for helping carry the message of unity and hope across Sri Lanka.
As a Director of the COC, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for the tremendous support extended to make Trail a resounding success.
