  • SFHQ-J 'Harmony Centre' Ready to Provide IT Training to Jaffna Children


    Recognizing diverse civic-oriented welfare projects being carried out by the Army in Jaffna, ‘We Are One Sri Lanka’, an organization based in the UK, extended its support by donating 18 computers to the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Sunday (09) morning. Mr. Mohan Samarasinghe, representing the organization handed over the computers, each to the value of Rs. 80,000/=, to Major General Priyatha Jayasundara.............
  • Meritorious Activities Held to Coincide with Anagarika Dharmapala Anniversary


    Bhodi Pooja and a sermon were conducted by Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero to invoke blessings on handicapped soldiers, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Ven. Anagarika Dharmapala Thero. It was held at the Non - Commissioned Officers’ training school, Saliyawawe recently. Mr. Gamini Keerthichandra, Chairperson for the Sinhala Association of the UK also took part in this meritorious event.

  • 'Poppy Day' Salutes Memories of All Fallen War Heroes


    Sri Lanka Ex- Servicemen's Association (SLESA) as was the practice every year on Sunday (9), honoured all fallen War Heroes, including those in the World Wars during a fitting ceremony that commemorated the 70th Poppy Day - 2014 at the Vihara Maha Devi Park cenotaph. Secretary to HE the President Mr. Lalith Weerathunga at the invitation of the SLESA, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was warmly received by Brigadier (retd) K.A Gnanaweera, President, SLESA before formalities got underway.

  • 211 Brigade Marks its 30th Anniversary with a Difference


    The 211 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters –Wanni (SFHQ-W) marked its 30th anniversary with a series of formal military and entertaining formalities on the directions of the Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W. A formal Guard Turn Out and a colourful parade saluted the Brigadier D.T Gamage, Brigade Commander, 211 Brigade and the day’s proceedings started afterwards at the at 211 Brigade Headquarters premises.
  • Yoga Training to Continue in Army Formations


    With the sole intention of promoting mental, spiritual and physical growth among Army personnel, the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) recently introduced a Yoga training workshop for all ranks. 10 officers and 34 other ranks took part in the training programme. The opening address was delivered by Colonel S.M.W.B.N. Thalagahawatta on behalf of the Wanni Commander. Trained officers and other ranks are to continue the programme after completion of the maiden project. 

  • New Buddhist Shrine at 7 SLA Headquarters Opened


    7 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) troops, built new Buddhist shrine at its Headquarters in the 65 Division area of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), was opened for offerings after two-day long ceremonies. The shrine was constructed with the financial contribution and manpower of all officers, other ranks and civil employees serving the 7 SLA on the directions of Lieutenant Colonel L.C.K Pathirana in order to cater to the religious purposes. The 2 day programme started with a colourful procession and followed with the planting of a ‘Bo’ sapling, lighting of the Buddhist shrine and a ‘Bodhi Pooja’, joined by everyone at the 7 SLA Headquarters.
  • Sri Lanka Engineers Reaches Maturity, Marking 63rd Anniversary


    Sri Lanka Army’s one of the most productive wings, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), reached the milestone age of 63 years of committed service to the Nation on Sunday (09). The series of ceremonies in connection with the 63rd anniversary, got to a start by placing floral wreaths before the Sappers’ Monument at the SLE Regimental Headquarters in a solemn ceremony.....
