  • Army Cricketers Beat Hong Kong Cricketers


    Sri Lanka Army both men’s and women’s cricket teams won the T-20 Cricket Tournaments against visiting Hong Kong National team men and women cricket teams, held at the Army Cricket Stadium, Panagoda on Saturday (6). Excellent performances exhibited by Gunner Sulan Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis, National Cricketer and Sergeant S.D.N.S Karunaratne contributed to go for the victory by 25 runs over Hong Kong men’s team.

  • Crowd Puller, 'Army Tattoo' Ends in Moneragala


    Massive crowds thronged Army Tattoo at Moneragala on both days and the organizers had to make extra arrangements to accommodate all who assembled there. 121 Brigade Headquarters under the 12 Division in close cooperation with all other units organized the 7th Army Tattoo at the Moneragala Technical College grounds during September 8 - 9.

  • Wanni Troops Educated on Dangers of Drug Addiction


    Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the intention of enlightening the troops on dangers of the use of narcotics, organized a counselling programme on Friday (5) at the SFHQ-W auditorium. Messrs Chamara Pradeep Karunaratne, Drug Information and Educational Assistance Agency, together with several other officials, at the request of the SFHQ-W conducted those lectures during the day.
  • British High Commissioner Visits SFHQ-W


    During his recent visit to the North and Wanni, Mr Jhon Rankin, High Commissioner of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on the Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), Major General Boniface Perera in Wanni. The three-member team, including Mr Tom Soper, Second Secretary and Ms Priyadarshani Thillainathan, Visa Officer during their stay at the SFHQ-W premises, visited the construction site of the new Officers’ Mess in the compound.
  • Army Bowsers Busy Providing Water


    Sri Lanka Army troops serving the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) in the week just ended (Sept 2 - 8) continued its humanitarian services by way of distributing water among drought affected civilians living in 111, 112 and 121 Brigade Headquarters areas of responsibility. On the directions of Major General Mano Perera, Commander, SFHQ-C, Army water bowsers were used for this purpose in Minipe Divisional Secretariat area, Meegahakiula Divisional Secretariat area
  • Army Helps Distribution of Dry Ration Packets


    Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) facilitated the distribution of 250 dry ration packets among resettled families in Veheratenna, Vavuniya on Saturday (6). Each packet consisted of rice, dhal, potatoes, salt, soya meat, sugar, tea, manioc yams, flour, garlic, chili powder, curry powder, turmeric powder, etc. The social service organization, ‘Sath Sith’ sponsored the donation and the event was headed by Ven. Jinawansa Thero.....

  • Over 20 Local Teams & Foreigners Join GYMPO 2014 at Embilipitiya


    Sappers 4 x 4 GYMPO 2014’, the pioneering off road event of the Army’s Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), had its day at Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering at Embilipitiya on Sunday (7) to the cheers of thousands of spectators. The event, organized for the successive fourth year was opened ceremonially by Major General V.U.B Nanayakkara, Colonel Commandant, SLE after hoisting the SLE flag.

  • Army Troops Contain Spread of Bush Fire

     
    Troops serving 53 Division under the Directorate of Operation at Army Headquarters in the general area of Inamaluwa, Dambulla on Wednesday (10) responded quickly and arrested a bush fire that was fast spreading in a forest reserve close to the 53 Division Headquarters. The bush fire that broke out as a result of prevailing dry weather condition was brought under control in less than an hour.
