    3 (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch soldiers in Matara, repeating their concerned commitment towards the common good of civilians, in another daring stunt, assisted the rescue of a drowning woman who had tried to take her own life by jumping into the Nilwala river on Thursday (23) at about 10.15 a.m. Staff Sergeant W.T.A Chaminda while on duty, near the river bank in the heart of Matara town, suddenly observed the woman in question.....

  • Air Force Flight Returns Home with Stranded Sri Lankans


    The Sri Lanka Air Force aircraft (C-130) that carried the first Sri Lankan contingent of Army, Navy, Air Force troops and medical consultants to the earthquake-struck Nepal on Saturday (25), returned to the island this afternoon (28) around 2.50 p.m. with 42 members of the under 14 Sri Lanka Football team and their coaches, teachers, medical officers, parents and assistants who were in Nepal to compete in a football tournament.

    Sri Lanka Army’s one more leading project, ‘Army Inter Regiment Road Marathon’ with hundreds of athletes, got underway for the 50th consecutive year on Sunday (26), near the Parliament grounds at Battaramulla. The mega road run, competed this year by more than 250 athletes from 23 Regiments of the Army, traces its history back to the year 1951.....
  • Second Flight with 97 Relief Workers & 17 Tonnes of Essentials Leave for Nepal



    The second Nepal-bound contingent of 97 service personnel and a consignment of 17 tonnes of medicine, engineering, signal and ordnance equipment, supportive transport requirements, water bottles, health accessories, dry rations, water purification tablets, etc, aboard the Sri Lankan Airlines flight (UL 4195), left for Kathmandu Wednesday (29) noon around 12.30 p.m. from the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.

    Troops of the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) conducted their Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival at the SFHQ-W grounds on Saturday (25) on a grand scale. Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W graced the cheerful event as the Chief Guest where many varieties of traditional games and fun-making features, added excitement and interest to the spectators.


  • Sri Lankan Rescue Contingent Braves Rainy Weather & Treats More Than 300, Accommodating Earthquake Victims in Own Tents


    The first rescue and relief contingent from Sri Lanka with 44 service personnel and 4 civil medical consultants, dispatched to Nepal Sunday (26) early morning on the directions of the President and the Prime Minister with close supervision of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, in less than 45 minutes of their arrival in Nepal, has begun their rescue and relief operations from Dolalghad, a remote worst-affected area, about 60 km away from Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • 'Gammadu Shanthi Karma'


    A ‘Gammadu Shanthi Karma’ one of the ancient traditional art forms and a ritual was conducted with the assistance of the troops of the 18 Sri Lanka National Guards of the (SLNG) of the 12 Division under the Security Force Headquarters –Central (SFHQ-C) at Kataragama Kirivehera premises on Saturday (25). 
  • Tamil Proficiency Courses Begin for Mullaittivu & Kilinochchi Troops


    With the motive of improving Tamil language proficiency among troops serving the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), a Tamil proficiency course commenced on Tuesday (28) at the Battalion Training School, Alampil, Mullaittivu. The course is assisted by instructors form National Institute of Language Education and Training.
