A General Court Martial (GCM) of the Army, has imposed a two-year rigorous imprisonment plus dishonourable discharge from the Army on Captain A.M.U Samarakoon of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force for bringing the Army into disrepute by attempting to rob the National Savings Bank at Mahaiyyawa, Kandy on 6 February 2013, disguised as a Muslim female. 
Two Australians aboard a sail boat, blown into the Mullaitivu seas due to strong winds were rescued by the Sri Lanka Army Sunday (5) afternoon, Disaster Management Centre Deputy Director (Media) Sarath Lal Kumara said. Troops serving the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) symbolically commenced their first working day 2014.
