  • Army Set to Produce One More International Cricketer

     
    Sri Lanka Army cricketers received another stimulus when their right arm leg spinner, Lance Corporal Prasanna Sekkuge was selected to play the Sri Lanka ‘A’ Cricket Team in the forthcoming tour of England (17 July - 19 August, 2011). Prasanna Sekkuge as one of the budding cricketers in the Army has already represented Sri Lanka ‘A’ Cricket Team during last year’s Australian tour, triangle series, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka and Canada, Ireland and Sri Lanka.
     
  • Jaffna Professor Speaks High of Army Contribution to Jaffna Farming

     
    Prof. G. Mikunthan, Head of the Department of Agricultural Biology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna was full of praise for the Army’s contribution to farming in the peninsula. He observed that it was amazing to see how dry and sandy soil in Champiyanpaththu area was being used by farmers to grow vegetables with the active support of the Army troops serving the peninsula. Prof. Mikunthan spoke high of good relations.....
     
  • Army Disable War Heroes to Compete in World Volley Ball Tournament

     
    Twelve disable War Heroes of the Army are to participate in the World Championship Volley Ball Tournament, scheduled to be held in Cambodia between July 20 - 30. This is the first time a volley ball team from Sri Lanka has been selected to attend a World Championship Tournament, held overseas. Slovakia, Laos, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Germany, India, Malaysia, Egypt, China, Thailand and Australia are also to be represented in the tournament.
     
  • Army's Maiden Women Cricketers Beat Rivals in Inaugural Match

     
    Sri Lanka Army’s maiden Women’s Cricket Team made its debut on Thursday (14) against its rival, Gothami Cricket Club at Panagoda Army cricket ground. The Army women convincingly beat Gothami women cricketers in the match organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after trouncing them for 44 all out and won the inaugural match by 9 wickets. Interest and enthusiasm, exhibited by both teams affirm that Sri Lanka Army women’s entry into this field of sports.....
     
  • Army De-Miners Find Thousands of Mortar Bombs, 86 Pound Bombs & Ammunition

     
    Army De-mining Engineers, actively engaged in extensive de-mining work in the North to ensure safety of all civilians, including those arriving for resettlement, made another significant recovery of unserviceable bombs and explosives on Thursday (14) in Udayarakattukulam area, Mullaittivu while carrying out routine de-mining process. Those troops, prioritizing areas where more and more resettlement, were to take place.....
     
  • Sri Lankan Forces Off To Brazil For a Different Battle

     
    A seventy-two member team consisting of both sportsmen and women of the tri-forces represents Sri Lankan Military Forces in the 5th CISM Military World Games - 2011, being held at João Havelange Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 16th to 24th July. The Sri Lankan contingent, led by Chief of Staff of Army Headquarters Major General R.M.D. Ratnayake, includes 4 officials and 68 competitors who are to participate in Track and Field, Judo, Taekwondo, Beach Volleyball and Sailing events.......
  • B'desh Army Adjutant General Calls on Commander

     
    Major General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq ndc psc, Adjutant General, Bangladesh Army, now in Sri Lanka on a five-day goodwill visit along with a delegation, called on Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Monday (18) morning at Army Headquarters. The visit of the five-member delegation, seen as a gesture of goodwill, healthy relations and understanding between both military organizations, is expected to further promote exchange of future training programmes between Sri Lanka Army and Bangladesh Army.
     
  • New IGP Pays Courtesy Call on Commander

     
    The newly appointed 33rd Inspector General of the Police (IGP) Mr N.K Illangakoon Friday (15) morning paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army at Army Headquarters. The visiting Police Chief at the entrance to the Army Headquarters received the Guard Turn Out and the Guard of Honour, accorded in his honour by Sri Lanka Artillery troops. Afterwards, Major General D.R.A.B Jayatillake, Commander, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.....
     
  • SLSR Colours Night Held on Grand Scale


    Recognizing and hailing the sportsmen of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), a glittering Colours Night was held at the Bishops College Auditorium, Colombo on Monday (18). The SLSR, having produced a fine assortment of sports personalities to the Army in the past, took pride in appreciating the services of both retired and serving sportsmen during the colourfull event.
