Major General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq ndc psc, Adjutant General, Bangladesh Army, now in Sri Lanka on a five-day goodwill visit along with a delegation, called on Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Monday (18) morning at Army Headquarters.
The visit of the five-member delegation, seen as a gesture of goodwill, healthy relations and understanding between both military organizations, is expected to further promote exchange of future training programmes between Sri Lanka Army and Bangladesh Army.
The delegation is comprised of Major General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Mrs Begum Shoma Huq, Brigadier General Muhammad Abdul Halim, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Nazimul Huq and Major Muhammad Rafiq Ul Islam.
The visiting Adjutant General, Bangladesh Army during his brief interaction with the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the latter’s office, exchanged views on a wide range of matters of relevance to both organizations, with special focus on increased intakes of officers for training assignments, incorporation of new areas of studies into curricula and Sri Lanka’s military experience on the road to recent victory against terrorism, etc.
To signify Bangladesh senior officer’s visit, the Commander of the Army presented him with a symbolic memento before his departure. The visiting delegate reciprocated the move before his departure. He also did not forget to leave his signature on the VIP book at the Commander’s office.
Later on, the visiting Adjutant General attended a separate discussion, organized by his Sri Lankan counterpart and attended by several principal staff officers at Army Headquarters.
Towards the latter part of the day, the delegation visited ‘Ranviru Sevana’ at Ragama, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps Regimental Centre and afterwards joined a sight-seeing tour of Colombo.
During their stay in Sri Lanka, the delegation is scheduled to visit places of historic, cultural and religious interests across the country.
