Army De-mining Engineers, actively engaged in extensive de-mining work in the North to ensure safety of all civilians, including those arriving for resettlement, made another significant recovery of unserviceable bombs and explosives on Thursday (14) in Udayarakattukulam area, Mullaittivu while carrying out routine de-mining process.

Those troops, prioritizing areas where more and more resettlement, were to take place, in line with the government’s ongoing accelerated ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ programme, conducted surveillance on the surroundings, close to Udayarakattukulam tank on Thursday (14) and recovered this large haul of LTTE mortar bombs, claymore bombs, ammunition and projectiles.

The recovery consisted of 555 mortar bombs of 120 mm with explosives, 3000 of 86 pound bombs without fuse, 1000 mortar bombs of 120 mm without explosives, 50 projectiles of 130 mm, 3 claymore bombs, 30 boxes of T-56 ammunition, 26 boxes of 12.7 mm ammunition, 4 air bombs of 250 kg without explosives, 6 air bombs of 250 kg with explosives, 1 torpedo, 100 of 152 mm artillery shells, 2000 of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, 150 mortar bombs of 81 mm with explosives and 800 mortar bombs of 81 mm without explosives.
