  • Late Major General Udumalagala's Funeral with Military Honours Takes Place on Wednesday (30)


    The military funeral of late Major General Susil Udumalagala (Rtd) RSP Ldmc of Gemunu Watch, Sri Lanka Army takes place on Wednesday (30) at Galle Samanala esplanade with full honours. He passed away on Thursday (24) night after a long illness. Major General Udumalagala, who had served a number of key appointments in the Army before his retirement last February joined the Army on 6 February 1980 and received commissions as a Second Lieutenant on 18 July 1981.
  • Tree Saplings & Cash Incentives Given to Villagers


    Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Society, jointly with the National Christian Council recently distributed plants, cash donations and other incentives among selected people in the Halambawrewa village, following coordination done by the 62 Division under the Security Force Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W). Each family received plant saplings to the value of Rs 6000/= in addition to cash donations given to two persons for improvement of their groceries.

  • Veherathenna, Kambiliwewa & Bogaswewa Resettled People Now Have Access to Power & Health


    A total of 6271 people of 2229 resettled people, in Veherathenna, Kambiliwewa, Bogaswewa I & II, Nandimithragama, Namalgama and Selalihinigama villages in Vavuniya, had a series of inaugural openings on Monday (28). In less than a year, Veherathenna and Kambiliwewa villages enjoyed the receipt of electricity to their homes on Monday (28) during a ceremony, organized jointly by the local government and the SFHQ-W.
  • New Medical Centre Sponsored by Australians Opened


    An Australian sponsorship, supplemented with the labour support offered by 7 Gamunu Watch (GW) troops resulted in the birth of a new medical centre at Valluwarpuram Grama Seva Division in the 68 Division area. The project was enabled by Dr Kelvin Kelly and Mrs Collin Kelly, both Australians, now residing in Australia. There support to the project was channeled through Mrs Shriyani Wickramasinghe.

    The Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Convocation - 2013 for conferment of Bachelor and Master degrees on 182 military officers, got underway on Tuesday (29) evening at the newly-refurbished Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) with HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

    Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, now attending the three-day long 60th annual meeting of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) in Washington, D.C at the invitation of the AUSA, shared views with a couple of top-ranking world-wide military leaders, including the Chief of Staff of the US Army, General Raymond T. Odierno during the formal inaugural ceremony at Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Monday (21).
