    AWARD of scholarships organized annually by Seva Vanitha Branch of Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) to assist children of War Hero families was held for the year 2009 at Moors’ stadium auditorium in Kompannavidiya on Tuesday (27).   • Commander Gives Patient Hearing to ORs & Addresses Issues

    SRI LANKA Army is to re-introduce its free transport facilities to soldiers as before, since the LTTE terrorism has now been defeated and its threat diminished. This was disclosed by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya this morning (29) when he spoke to a cross-section of Other Ranks serving the Colombo Army Headquarters for the first time after he took over as Commander of the Army.Soldiers at the Army Headquarters and other establishments within Colombo were earlier provided free transport to specific destinations, but those services had to be suspended indefinitely as LTTE threat against military targets and convoys was on the increase.

  • Secretary Defence Visits "Ranaviru Nikethanaya" Welfare Project, Dialog Telekom Donates Rs. 25M

    SECRETARY Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited the newly constructing "Ranaviru Nikethanaya" at Aththidiya this morning, 29 October. "Ranaviru Nikethanaya" is yet another welfare project of the Ministry of Defence for the disabled security forces personnel. The "Ranaviru Nikethanaya" will provide shelter for permanently disabled war heroes. Each disabled war hero will be provided with an air-conditioned room, internet facilities.....

  • First Military Diploma Holders at SLMA Receive Their Certificates

    THE COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya attended the first ever military diploma awarding ceremony held at Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Diyathalawa as the Chief Guest, this evening (31). Seventy-eight young officers who successfully completed their diplomas in Military studies at SLMA conducted in affiliation with the University of Sabaragamuwa were awarded certificates on the occasion. Next of Kin of nine qualified officers who made supreme sacrifice in the battlefield after completion of this two year diploma course were also among the recipients. The Commander addressing diploma holders stressed the importance of academic knowledge for officers in the Army to face future challenges and responsibilities.

  • Navy Finds over 58000 T-56 Ammo from Trincomalee

    NORTH: ARMY TROOPS engaged in search and clear operations in the general areas of MIRUSAVIL and AKKARAYANKULAM on Monday (02) recovered three claymore mines, two hand grenades, eleven rounds of T-56 ammunition and seventy-nine 60 mm mortar bombs. Meanwhile, troops recovered two anti personnel mines from KALLARU in TRINCOMALEE on the same day (02). 

  • Monthly Meeting of Seva Vanitha Army Branch Held

     THE SEVA VANITHA Army Branch (SVAB) conducted its monthly meeting for October on Thursday (29) morning at the SVAB auditorium. The meeting was chaired by its President Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya. The main focus of the meeting was on the raising of funds for the proposed Wellness Resort project through the fashion show, “Mt.   • Stums Socks for Disable Soldiers Donated

    CEYLON Knit Trend Limited (Hidramani Group) donated a stock of about 1200 stums socks and 142 commodes worth Rs. one million to Seva Vanitha Army Branch  (SVAB), to be distributed among War Heroes who had lost their limbs due to terrorist attacks during Humanitarian Operations. The donation was made during a simple ceremony held at the SVAB auditorium Thursday (29) morning. The donation was received by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, President SVAB Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya and the Director Army Rehabilitations ....

    WITH A VIEW to eliminating fear psychosis of the people in the east and promoting tourism in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka Army, with the guidance of Commander Security Forces Headquarters – East (SFHQ – E) Major General Srinath Rajapaksha, organized a grand sports and musical extravaganza Saturday (31) at the famous Pasikuda beach in Batticaloa.This centre of tourism which has been popular among local and foreign tourists for its beautiful beach and shallow sea remained inaccessible nearly for three decades since the area was dominated by LTTE terrorists.
